Our Process: The Art of Bhairavgarh Batik

At Nushkara, we do not just design clothing; we preserve heritage. Our collection features the legendary, centuries-old art of Bhairavgarh Batik printing, sourced directly from the cultural heart of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.

Batik is a meticulous, resist-dyeing craft that requires immense patience, precision, and an intimate understanding of materials. It is a slow, soulful dance between molten wax, hand-carved blocks, and rich dyes.

The Journey of a Nushkara Garment:

  • Step 1: The Molten Wax Impression Our master artisans use hand-carved wooden blocks dipped in a precise blend of molten paraffin and beeswax. The wax is stamped onto premium natural fabrics, sealing the fibers to shield them from the coming dye.

  • Step 2: The Color Baths The waxed fabric is immersed into vibrant dye baths. Because the wax resists the dye, only the exposed fabric absorbs the rich, deep colors, creating the primary pattern.

  • Step 3: The Signature "Crackle" Once dry, the fabric is carefully crushed by hand. This breaks the hardened wax layer, allowing fine veins of subsequent dyes to seep through the tiny fractures. This creates the signature, vein-like crackle effect that makes every single meter of Batik completely unique.

  • Step 4: The Boiling & The Reveal The fabric is immersed in boiling water to melt away the wax, revealing the pristine, intricate patterns underneath. The cloth is then washed, setting the true soul of Bhairavgarh into the textile.

The Beauty of Imperfection: Because every crackle and block placement relies entirely on the artisan's hand, no two pieces of Nushkara are ever identical. When you wear our Batik, you are wearing a piece of wearable art that cannot be replicated by a machine.
